What can I say, I'm over-run with them! Planted a few plants on the allotment as a space filler.
Now they've all cropped and I'm left with twenty or so pumpkins weighing from 20lb to probably about 60lb. The intention was to possibly sell them off, but they aren't particularly attractive and are very pale (not the typical deep orange a pumkin should be).
Wines, beers, jams, chutneys, curds, you name it I'll try it, and as many variations on as many recipes as you like!
Also, if anyone might be heading up (or down) the A1 just north of Peterborough, please please stop by and take one or two off my hands!!! |

Quite possibly, can't think why though. Also quite "p'd" off with pumpkins at the moment
Now done jam, pie, rissotto, cake and bread! Found arecipe for marrow wine, proper wine, not the jungle juice of a marrow filled with sugar (been there done that:wink:) . It calls for a medium sized marrow. Can anyone suggest what sort of weight a medium sized marrow is and does anyone want a gallon of pumpkin wine? I'm sure I'll have enough for everyone!! |

Marrow Wine.
5lb (2.5kg) marrow
2oz (60g) root ginger
2 lemons
2 oranges
3lb (1.5kg) white sugar
1 gallon (5litres) water
wine yeast
Wipe the marrow with sulphated (!) cloth, cut into small pieces including skin & seeds. Thinly pare the oranges & lemons, bruise the ginger & boil all these until marrow is tender.
When cool, strain onto the sugar & stir well. Add the juice from the oranges & lemons & an activated yeast. Ferment under air lock until it stops.
Rack to a container, add Campden tablet & store 6 months.
Without the ginger the taste is very bland. You can substitute cloves or cinnamon instead. |

| old man ...save the gallon for PK meet 2007 and for CPs recipe above a tissue soaked in lemon juice will do for cleaning outside of pumpkin or marrow or squash and using mixed spice will give a super wine to mull or a hand full or two of plums is another way(remove stones) |

Found another one actually for pumpkin wine which is almost identical.
The differences were to grate the pumpkin & just pour the boiling water over with half of the sugar, 1oz ginger not 2oz.
Add yeast when lukewarm. Leave 5 days in a warm place, strain & add the rest of the sugar then ferment.
Optional extra was raisins. |

Not short of pumkin so might as well try both, thanks CP.

When we talked about next years PK meet we tentatively penciled in one of the May Bank Holidays & favouring the one at the end of May I think.
And most probably at the same venue - Poultry Park in Newent, Gloucestershire. (that's if Chris & Dominico will have us back!?! )
Nothing was finalised though. |
