Questions, questions!
We now have 4 chicks, I helped one last night that had made a hole in the middle of the egg and made it bigger, but not managed to get to around the egg, the membrane was dry and sticking to it so I moistened it a bit and chipped away a bit of egg - it looked like the air sac was more to the side of the egg than the end. It pushed itself out eventually with some help from the other chicks. There is still an egg cheeping in the incubator, but no sign of pipping in it yet.
My egg delivery contained Scots Dumpy eggs, Appenzeller eggs (what colour hens we wonder?), light sussex eggs and pekin cross eggs. All the way from the Western Isles. I have 21 eggs (1 scots dumpy and one appenzeller were cracked) to set and we are going to put some in the school incubator for the kids to see them hatch. Just need to persuade the chick in my bator to hatch first! |

No 5 has just hatched. Well pleased with my babies.
Question - should welsummers have feathered legs? One has little feather bits down it's leg. |

Don't think they should have feathered legs, but correct me if I am wrong.
Any more pics? |
