Today I saw a rather ill looking mouse wandering near the coup, which I guess was feeling the effects of the rat poison I've been laying in pipes.
I've seen mice like this a few times when I've been using rat poison. I don't of course use it in the hen house its self but it is used nearby.
It got me thinking what happens if a hen eats one of these mice which are undoubtedly easy to catch. would the chicken be affected by the poison |

In most cases, the dose would be so low that the chicken would have no ill effects. Your chickens would have to eat an awful lot of mice (think about cats, there would be far more deaths if all it took was one poisoned mouse)
If you're worried about using poison, there's a non toxic rat bait that works on their inability to digest process cellulose - Verm X - i think, you could try that. I know Summayah has used it in the past. |
