| Hey Tim - your cochins have obviously been reading about the students who cram themselves into minis or phone boxes so are trying for the Guiness Book of Records. If you're breeding literate fowl I am seriously worried. |

FFS Wilt grow up will you.
What do you think this is the SS interrogation room?
I was probably breeding and showing chicken when you were still in nappies. I dont have to justify myself to you or anyone else, and I refuse to lower myself to your goading.
I shall ignore you're insults and stupid remarks, and character assasination.
Keep breeding your long legged Cochins mate if it makes you happy, and go and find someone else to have a go at, cos personally I'm not interested in a slanging match with you.
It's easy to call someone a liar, it's not so easy for that person to ignore an obviously obnoxious pompouse self opinionated bore! If my husband were still alive he'd probably want to sort you out, as he couldnt stand people like you. But he's not and I have better things to do in life than worry about it.
Oh and Happy Christmas! |

Yeh! Janet, they like to have a group hug! The greater part of those are now sold, and I got a really good price for two trios, seeing as they were only growers. The fella from Yorkshire said he thought they were the right type and conformation. And he say's he's coming back

| Birds with their own snowshoes are probably a very good idea at the moment. |

Well done Henwife, its great when birds that are sold go on to win top awards It gives a sense of satisfaction that we are selling good quality birds to new owners. Its very good for the future of the breed. |

| Thank you - those I sold as eggs! There are some entered at Stafford too I understand. Mind you, my cockerel came from Sunnyside and he is really good - except for a scarred neck where he argued with a buzzard and won! |

This blue, from the first edition of the poultry standard looks a similar shape to Foxy's.

I've heard a couple of things about Cochin's that maybe one of you guys can put me right on
Is it true they only tend to live for 3 to 4 years, their eggs are alot smaller than standard LF and they are not partial to open spaces. Also you can keep them within a relatively short(height) run?
Also where does the light go when you turn off the switch? |

Hi Big D, The age thing isn't at all true. I have a blue hen and a black cock bird (Barry White) who at least 11-12 years old! Bluey ( not an original name I know ) Still lays an egg now and then. Baza has always been my policeman cock, until this season where It looks like he's not up to it now
The egg size is correct and not correct. I'll explain. The biggest of all the colours is the buff, and they lay the smallest egg, probably the size of a normal bantam egg. Yet the partridge which is the smallest colour of the breed ( I think thats true of most breeds) lays the biggest egg easily as big as an ex-batts egg. The blacks, blues, white, mottles etc etc lay a normal utility sized egg
It not a good idea to keep them in a low height run, as the cock birds tend to end up with a permanent stoop. But if we are talking about containing them in an outside run with a low height fence round it, then yes they can't be bothered jumping over it under normal circumstances.
They love open spaces and will explore as far afield as you will let them, though like other poultry they will expand their browsing area gradually
This looks as if I was lying and they prefer to be in small cages!
The light is still on! The circuit is still complete! Your mind stem is refusing to acknowledge the fact! |

Thanks for that Wilt.
You get so much information from dubious sources, fact and fiction get tangled together.
Always better to get it from the horses mouth (as it were)
Loads of old boy farmers use my Cafe and they can talk some right nonsense! |
