One of my bantams is laying ever-decreasing eggs - the frequency isn't the problem, it's the size
She's a smallish OEGxmongrel thing, and when she first came into lay she was laying big eggs in relation to her size - long and pointy, typical OEG ones. They weighed over 1.5oz.
I've noticed her eggs getting gradually smaller and rounder, to the point where if I hadn't actually seen her lay the last one I'd have assumed it came from the Pekin. I weighed the last tiny one - it's less than 1oz and actually smaller than a pekin egg.
It doesn't bother me so long as she's happy in herself (and she certainly full of life, I had to rescue her from a neighbour's garden yesterday, despite having had a severe wing-clipping ).
I just wondered if there's any obvious reason for these tiny eggs, or if it indicates a problem? If they carry on this way we'll end up with tiny marbles
Forgot to say, she's 12 months old - don't know if that's relevent? |

She could possibly be heading towards her first moult, and she will stop laying altogether for a few weeks, until she has grown her feathers back. She needs all the nutrients to make feathers, so the eggs are not a priority. Give her a few weeks and she'll be back on form, I'm sure.

If you hard boil them you could end up with a novel new game!
Seriously, I think NannyP may be correct.
I haven't heard of increasingly smaller eggs being a result of a medical problem, but maybe someone knows different? |

Now if you were really mean like me, you can hard boil them and paint then and hide them in the garden for local kids to hunt the easter egg. Hehehe, they would be there for flipping hours looking for them while you sit indoors with a cuppa tea and cadbury's cream egg watching them.
Oh I am so croool |
