This is an entirely theoretical question, as I currently have neither hatching facilities nor fertile eggs Shocked Laughing

But at some point I would really, really like to hatch my own chicks. The problem is that I live in the middle of a housing estate and any resulting cockerels would go down very badly Shocked I can't bring myself to dispatch them either.

What I was wondering was whether it would be easier to find homes for any cockerels if they were of a more unusual breed? What I'd really like to breed is Transylvanian Naked Neck bantams - I think they're fabulous, and as they're relatively uncommon I'd hopefully be doing the breed a favour as well.

If I chose a speciality breed such as this, do you think I'd have a better chance of rehoming them before they got too noisy?! Laughing

I'd think you certainly would have a better chance of rehoming a rarer breed.

Some breeds are rare for a reason though - they're just not popular for some reason or other!

I don't know about naked necks because they're pretty ugly to a lot of people so you might have difficulty?

Orpingtons are a big fluffy quiet breed, popular (and rightly so) as pets! or pekins? silkies?

Ohhhhhhhhh, I really, really want Naked Necks! I suppose I could force myself to go for Pekins, I guess they're more appealing... Laughing

They'd have to be black ones tho - my buff pekin is a permanently mucky b*gger Twisted Evil

Sorry Fenn - I just can't see the appeal of the Naked Necks! Yuk!! Shocked

But each to his or her own, I guess! Rolling Eyes

Good luck with whatever breed you decide upon. Wink
