| youngest daughter and I have just been out and collected our first two eggs - one is courtesy of snowy (our white bluebelle or buttercup) and the other, we think, is from my bluebelle. One weighs 61g the other is 64g. What a pity I'd already sent hubbies bacon sandwich upstairs! We knew when we got them yesterday that snowy was already laying but hadn't expected to have anything this soon after their move - or maybe we'll find we don't get anything now for the next few days. We think (sad I know) it's really eggciting! |

It's not sad to be excited about it. Everybody is excited when their girls come into lay and the great feeling never decreases no mattr how many eggs you collect from them.
It takes 25 hours for an egg to be made from start to finish so your girls would have already been in the process when you collected them. |

That's great news!  It's always exciting to get the very first egg, but sometimes you have to wait a bit longer than 1 day. As summayah says, the thrill never really goes away, as we've had hens for 5 years & it's still wonderfull to open the nestbox to see what's inside.
You may find the stress of moving puts them off laying for a few days. Give them ACV in their water to help get over the move & I'm sure they'll be back laying in no time. 
We'd love to see some pictures when you've taken some. |

| You've even got the owrd right ! It is eggciting - I still love guessing how many eggs I'm going to get each day. I'm pleased you are enjoying your birds - what are you going to do with those first eggs? |

| not sure what we'll do - actually we've now got 3! The children were keen to put them in water to check they were fresh - despite me explaining you couldn't get fresher eggs!! Youngest will want a boiled egg tomorrow so that's one gone and I might get some cress and do egg and cress sarnies for Tuesday. |

| Madsig - toddling about in PJ's must be what poultry keepers do because I've just done it again this morning. Let the girls out before I've even made my tea! Bramble has been told to stop picking on lunch and jump (the two black rocks - one named by hubbie - bet you can't guess which one!!) but I'm expecting her to to take as much notice as the children do. |
