I thought a science-based article (rather than "We're all going to die" followed by "Don't panic" newspaper story) might be interesting reading. It is readable, so don't be put off by it being science-based.

Amongst the interesting facts that I've not seen reported is this:

In laboratory experiments in mallard ducks, it [H5N1] rapidly shifted from being potentially fatal to causing only asymptomatic infections.


Now that is seen as worrisome, as it's going to remain in populations for years, but the evidence seems to be that is becoming less harmful and returning to background noise long term ready for a new wave (such as the early 20th century pandemic of flu) rather than ever worse for all time.
