One of MY girls has finally laid an egg!!!

Not sure who yet as I haven't caught them in the act - but suspect Grey Gobby (my grey wyandotte) as she has been in and out of the nest box today!

The egg is smaller than a silkie and more creamier in colour. In fact it was so small it fell straight through the the egg holder, bounced off the windowsill and dropped into the sink!
Fortunately it was just cracked so ate I it as an 'attempted' poached egg.

(I really need an idiots guide on how to do poached! It's my favourite way of eating eggs and yet I don't know how to cook them Sad )

So - I'm am SO proud! I feel like I've waited FOREVER for this day!!!

Also - 7 eggs today in total! A new record!!! Smile
Sending a few into the boys nursery tomorrow - to show the kids all the different sizes shapes and colours)

Thanks Debs!
I must admit the yolk was huge in comparison!!! Will have to put them in the egg holder more carefully from now on!!! hee hee!!!

I know this might be a bit naive - but do you have any type of council up there? Could they provide you with emergency heating? - Just a thought and sorry if that's a numpty idea!

theres a local council, strapped for cash like most of them Confused
I've got a couple of electric dimplex radiators and the open fire so we won't freeze, just won't be as warm as normal Sad
I've got a list of plumbers to phone tomorrow, loads of people take them out and swop to oil so one of them might know where I can get one, fingers crossed
The trouble then is moving it - they weigh a ton
Confused

Hi Debs
Glad to hear you have some form of heating at least!
Have spoken to OH on your behalf and he asks is yours one of the brick lined ones? If so you should be able to get someone to do a temporary repair with an old house brick or two and some 'fire cement KOS', 'relining clay' or 'prometheus'. (Sorry I don't know exactly what they are - but Mark says a local builder should know what they are.)
He also says ' do you live in a council property or private?'

I cheat Very Happy
I couldn't afford to buy so my Dad bought it, when I've paid enough rent (whatever that is) it's mine:D

if I can't find a 2nd hand stove he will pay for a water heater and a pot bellied stove for the kitchen and a couple more storage heaters - we have 2 but I hate them Confused they cost a fortune to run and really dry the air out

would love another stove though as we get so many powercuts and I can still cook then. last year we had 2 days then 3 days with no power (no mains gas) but we could still have hot food Very Happy

Hope you get sorted out soon Debs

What does you OH do?
there are jobs in all sorts of things
no snow or frost Very Happy
but
loads of wind and rain, the beaches are amazing, white sand and bright blue sea, if you know where to go you can be the only people on a mile of beach in the middle of summer:D
It's a great place to bring up kids, like going back 50 years, they can go out and play and come home when they are hungry Very Happy
Not like down south, wouldn't let mine out of the front door then
now they go on their bikes 1 1/2 miles to the play park!! they go to the shop on their own as well
The twins are in year 4 their class is year 1 -4 and there are 9 of them Shocked
Some things cost more but it's worth it for what you gain, just wish the weather was better

Debs
He is a builder by trade - but is now the area manager for the East ridings councils building maintenance department! www.eastriding.gov.uk Hence him asking all the questions about your heating!
He's wanting to live more of a 'good life' since I became self-employed and am 'loving' living at home and not doing the rat race.
It does sound ideal for kids! We moved house when I was 8 months pregnant with our twins so they would have a better upbringing. And I love the 'quiet safe village' and views of the river that we live in now.
But we dont' get any extremes of weather!!!
I really hate the cold wet and windy so perhaps it's not the place for me - but I could loan him out if necessary!!!

BTW - did I tell you? One of MY girls has finally laid their first egg today!!! ROFL Laughing
