<pretending to be George>
Nope, you can only buy the big tubs of the stuff that treat 100s of birds.
And since Oct 2005 it has been reclassified, which means slightly less places can sell it Now they have to have a "suitably qualified person" (whatever one of those is).
I gave a load of mine away - knowing I would never use it within the best by date... waste not, want not etc.
You can sometimes find pellets for sale with it already mixed in, which is another way to buy it.
<no more pretending> |

| You could try somthing other than flubenvet. There is a more natural product on the market called Verm-X. I've never used it but apparently it works really well and is sold in smaller quantities ~ there is some sort of a disenser which gives the exact amount which is then put in their drinking water (or the other way round to be precise powder first water second). There is also no egg withdrawal period. I know someone who has used it and she was very happy with it ~ here the web address www.verm-x.com . |

What is egg withdrawal? Does it mean that for the week of administering the flubenvet the eggs should not be eaten?
I have only just purchased a large tub of flubenvet as my normal supplier of layers pellets which used to contain the correct quantities has just informed me that it is no longer allowed to be added to feed and that a vet has to prescribe it (I didn't bother to go down the vet route thinking it would end up very pricey!!) You need to find a supplier who has been certified to sell it and answer any queries on it. It costs around £10 - £12 but should last a few years (I think I have seen it for sale on e-bay) |

| That must be a recent change, if it's true, as we were able to purchase it just 2 weeks ago. I suppose our local country store may be an approved supplier. |

The rules changed a bit last year. Discussion about it here:
http://forum.downsizer.net/viewtopic.php?t=9521
An egg withdrawl period is the amount of time you shouldn't eat eggs from birds when they are on some medications. Some meds, eg antibiotics, also need a time after you stop using them too, to allow the drugs to get completely out of the chickens system before we start eating the eggs.
Used at the correct amount there is no egg withdrawl period with Flubenvet.
Some vets have recommended Flubenvet used at twice the normal dose if, and only if, there is an infection with a particular type of worm. But this is not standard use and because of the higher dose there is (IIRC) a 7 day egg withdrawl then. |
