just don't leave your pots where the chickens will find them. I put some plants out to harden off I didn't think the chicks would want them as they were fairly large ~ only to look out of the window to watch them doing tossing the caber with them, plants flying everywhere still in their tiny pots.

Apparently you can start things that don't like transplanting inside if you use a drain pipe - when you want to put the seedlings outside you slide the compost and seeds directly into the planting position easing the drianpipe back. If you see what I mean. Never tried it.
