No worries Donny!
Just out of interest - What breed of runners do you have, and how old are they?

Nice Donny!
We have a couple of very sweet Trouts - about 22 months old now - lovely birds they are!!
Shy at times, though quite confident when they can look through the french doors to watch the family or the telly!!!

Thanks all for your replies.

Pond is sorted, now i need to get the housing done. Do they need just a flat floor or a box etc for laying, any help would be gratefully received.

Regards

Phil

Hello! I'm brand new to this forum and have sort of accidentally gotten into Indian Runner ducks and am becoming quite interested in learning more and more about these really cool ducks. My question is....
My mother duck lays a nice sized egg with a yellow yolk, but her babies yolks are green. Is it normal to have green yolks? They are all on the same diet, so I am wondering why the babies yolks are green. They taste good, but I'm just curious if that is normal. The mother is not a runner and she is a buff color. The babies are kind of a blue silver like color and are all runners. The dad is a black runner. Thank you in advance for your answers!

rugby 137-

I wouldn't worry about nest boxes, ducks rarely use them, they usually lay in the corners of the shed

werenotscared- I haven't heard about different coloured yolks before. Different breeds of ducks lay different coloured eggs, but that is only on shell colour, the contents of the egg is usually the same.

I can only imagine that your young birds are eating something that colours the yolk, perhaps they have more access to greens??? I've kept ducks for 23 yrs and never eaten a duck egg because I use them for hatching so I'm probably not the best person to comment Laughing

Enjoy your ducks, they are great fun to keep, and such characters Very Happy

Can anyone tell me what colour my two girls are?? they're a kind of soft grey (blue?) with white throats, one a lot more so than the other. Although the photos seem to show some brown colour on them, in the flesh you can't see any, just the soft grey.
