Are these the same people that artificially coloured the chicks?
Hope someone will tell them some helpful and less dangerous stuff soon.

| Dont get me wrong.. im not saying i'd use it.... but if your desperate and nothing else is shifting it, would it not then be a consideration.. not being natural surely isnt necessarily the issue, the everday flu vaccine AND the Avian flu vaccines are loaded with mercury.. (not very natural in my opinion) Im just hoping for a healthy debate mainly to see if people think it could have any clout in curing the problem. |

I like the suggest of testing it first on a ball of grass, just to see what happens.
Although, I'm not sure I'd risk one of my girls on something like coke

I think at best its an interesting bit of lateral thinking - trying to give something to *dissolve* the blockage. Usual oil or liquid parafin dosages plus massage aim to break up any blockage so it can pass on through naturally.
Wouldn't personally want to give cola to a chicken - feel bad enough drinking it myself occasionally, given how corrosive it is, but I can make that choice I'm so much better at looking after my animals than myself
I wonder if some sort of digestive enzyme would work better eg bromelain which comes from pineapples (I'm feeding it to the our dogs to help with their digestion, but I think it breaks down protein, not plant fibres). Although I'd be worried about what effect that would have on the crop walls if it remained there for several days as residue on the blockage and didn't pass on further through the digestive system. And I've no idea what dosage for a chicken...
I think George's idea of testing what actually happens to a potential blockage, outside of a real chicken, is brilliant!
And just wondering how many of us will be trying to dissolve grass with cola over the next few days, just out of interest
Still not very keen on the idea of feeding cola to one of my chickens though |

this discussion struck a nerve with me. I didn't read the link but when Huriyyah was with me, she had a gastostomy tube fitted for medication and feeding as she couldn't swallow things properly. The tube was flushed before and after medications and liquid feed, but occasionally it would still block. The first course of action was to try to pump it through with warm water....next........coke down the tube to dissolve the blockage.
I never did try it and I won't be trying it on my girls either.
George's idea sounds the best trial run. |
