|

I'm not sure if my hens have ever been wormed.
Ive noticed today that i am getting some diarrhea, well its a white milk like consistency with a bit of brown solid (sorry to be too descriptive).
By reading on the diarrhea sticky my chooks may have worms. I have diatom but no other wormer.
What concentration do i use?
Best way to administer (guessing in water)?
Thanks |

I've just had a thought,
They've been having water melon the last couple of days (and boy do they love it!) Could that be a possibility? |

George, is that 5% by volume or by weight? I've just received my diatom and have put it in the girls' house on the floor under the shavings and on top of the shavings ~ I couldn't remember where it was supposed to go! I also put some in the foot hopper but didn't know how much to put in.
Can they have too much? |

| Quote: | Poultry
Diatomaceous earth can control Red-Mite in poultry houses if thoroughly applied to:
walls, floors, ceilings, perches and nest boxes / cages with De at 10-15g per square metre. Particular attention should be given to cracks and crevices where insects retreat.
High relative humility levels (above 75%) are likely to reduce product efficiency.
De should be applied thoroughly to empty poultry houses prior to the arrival of new birds. Follow up treatments can be carried out within 3 months whilst the poultry house is occupied. Pay attention to nest boxes and cracks and crevices and keep dust to a minimum.
For active populations of Red-Mite apply on a weekly basis for 2 consecutive weeks or until activity subsides.

Actually, when I did it I just added a bit and didn't worry too much about exact amounts.
I'm guessing it would be by weight, although if adding to a dry feed then most of it seems to end up in the bottom of the feeder untouched, might be better to add it to a mash instead. |
