These are my latest photos of Billy, Mrs CLB and the 9 week old chicks.

Ideas about the chicks would be useful, as they are growing crests, yet are barred????

Couldn't resist that one, looking very regal I thought!

I've got 2 - 1 looks like picture 5 and the other like your chicks but a bit darker, both are crested.

Had I not gone back to look at the photos of the chicks at hatch, I would have suggested that both of them were cockerels. Hmmmm. The pullets should have salmon breasts. On my trawl through this thread I found that on page 5 I have copied out the British Standard for Cream Legbar cocks and hens. I knew I'd done it somewhere and hoped it was this Forum. It's what I am trying to achieve with my flock. Unfortunately an awful lot of poultry judges seem completely unaware of what these ought to look like, which does nothing to help those of us who don't show but try to breed to standand. Dismounts hobbyhorse.

It's very confusing, I am these these two are growing crests, and their combs are further forward to allow for that. They did look like hens at hatch, and now they look like coqs?
Over on PP, where I have also posted these pics, someone is stating they are male. Not sure she has looked at the hatched chicks photo.

Oh well, these two will go for the pot, along with the other table birds.

If you're a really good girl, I'll bring some CLB eggs to the meet-up Wink ("Tweety still laying" permitting, of course, as we only have the one CLB layer at present!) Mine seem to be developing "by the book" so far Very Happy

That's kind Vanessa, and I'll have to decline. We're off to the UK not long after and I can't leave housesitters with very young chicks.
Confused

I may be able to pick some up in the UK....so I am not giving up yet.

Yes, Phill ... all CLB's have the wonderful crests. Females have a full mob-cap, males have a slicked-back crest

We only keep bantams & I'd love to have a Cream Legbar for the blue eggs but not if they're huge birds. Do they come in bantam size?

I've read through all the breed standards on this thread but none mention size.... Confused

Henwife - you keep bantams, so how do the CLB's compare in size to them? Confused

I depends on the size of the bantams you keep CP. My CLB is about the same size as my Welsummers - which is about 1/3rd - 1/2 more in size to my Brahma bantams. Hope that helps.

CP - knowing the weight might help you in making a comparison. Poultry Standards list the males as 2.70 - 3.40 kg (6-7.5 lb) and females 2 - 2.70 kg (4.5 - 6lb) Hope this helps. In the Standards is does list Bantam Gold or Silver Legbars as being - male 850g (30 ozs) and the female 620g (22 ozs) - but as I said this is for the Gold and Silver. Not even sure that miniatures exist in the CLB.
