As you know I have no eggs! Well my hens aren't laying yet.
This morning, I let them out as usual and I went to check on them a little while ago, I couldn't find my Bluebelle. I was starting to think she had legged it, so i got my shoes on and a hand full of grain ready to search the neighbours gardens. Then I checked once more in the garden. She is sitting in a little nest, looking quite comfy. Could she be laying an egg? Does this take a while or so they just pop em out? She's been there 15 mins now.

By the size of it, I'll have to wait for a few more, then its poached eggs with sweet chilli sauce on Toast and a side of bacon! delic!
So will she lay each day now and do you think it will be in the same place (the nest she's made in the garden)?
I've been showing the egg to the oldies ( 30 weekers) to show them just what they are meant to be doing!! |

They are probably all having a laugh about it now, sniggering about how small it is |

Congratulations!
She'll soon be laying regularly, proper-sized eggs too. They often start with either a double yolker or a little mini-egg, but soon get the hang of standard, tasty eggs!
She may stick with her outdoors nest, but may well de-camp to your henny house. If laying outdoors is a problem, I'd keep an eye on her and when she settles down outside to lay, pop her into a nest-box and shut her in. She'll soon settle down and do the business. You may need to repeat this for a few days, but they soon get the message and adopt the nest-box as their laying place.

Thanks Attila, She's been strutting around the other two all day!! I'll wait for a few days and see if this is going to be 'the nest place'. Its right by the back door, under a bush so it shouldn't be a problem. ( less walking for me!). |
