Oh yes, I can vouch for that! . I've got 5 Buff columbian Braham bantam pullets and one cockerel. I bought 3 pullets (since sadly lost one) and 1 cockerel (moved on and a new one bought) in January this year - I love them to bits and have hatched a few more - a couple of weeks ago couldn't resist a double pencilled pullet - she is gorgeous. I have to stop myself getting a bigger coop for them as I want to concentrate on my large fowl - I feel I may be fighting a losing battle though . |

Chris you won't be able to resist hatching more, I started with two, one died. So got another, then another hatched some and now have 7 older ones (under a year) 2 fifteen week old ones and 6 ten week old ones.
15 in total, I did let one cockerel go a few months back but I find it very difficult to part with the brahmas.
I hope you hatch loads more next As brahmas are the best. |

I've got one 13 week old Buff Columbian Brahma bantam cockerel I was going to let go, as i have his dad, but he got badly injured - buzzard attack we think. His back, above his tail and to the right, was ripped open and I didn't expect him to survive - but he has, so far. It's been over a week and he is eating, drinking and is out in his small run chatting to the others. How can I get rid of him when he has fought so bravely? BUT - how do i intergate him in with his dad - who may well attack him! I really don't think it's fair to leave him on his own either, so I am in a quandry what to do!! Can't do anything till the wound heals up and the scab drops off though, so we will enjoy our cuddles for a little longer . |

The poor little fella, at least hes still eating and chatting,he must be one strong boy. I would have been worried about the stress it caused but it doesn't sound as if it was a problem.
You are right, if one of mine had gone through something like that, I would make sure I kept him
Hopefully his father will take him in, once the wounds clear up.
Are they all scabbed over or open, could you not spray him with purple spray and try to introduce him earlier, as at the minute at that age at least he could run and jump away from the father if need be.(or is he a bit slow from the attack).
I hope all goes well, |

| I have been spraying him with a blue antibiotic spray to help keep the scab and surrounding area clean. It was just one very large wound - you could see the muscle, not nice! - and the scab is big. he is also limping so think he is either very bruised ot there is some damage to his right leg - it's not broken and he can walk but I don' think he would be nimble enough to get out of the way of an attack by dad. I had thought of putting his sister in with him for company for now but she is so well intergrated with the others and I don't want to upset the balance. |

You have got a problem, I guess all you can do is wait till hes stronger,at least he can chat to the others where he is.
And when the time comes introduce him slowly, my cockerel is so docile , he lets my leghorn cockerel jump over into his garden and eat his food.
Hopefully yours is so docile there will be no problem in introducing them together when hes stronger.
Let me know how things go. |

I have 5 LF Brahma cockerels running with my Brahma girls and they all get on really well together, may be something to do with the fact that none of them are crowing though................... |
