Brilliant thank you. How can I turn that into an avatar? Or can I - would it be legal or against copyright?

What percentage of hatching birds in a clutch would normally be male. From 3 hatches so far this year (using same cockerel) we have had only hens. Is this normal?

Has anyone else found a higher proportion of hens to cockerels hatched this year? Is it the weather? I promised to breed a cockerel for a friend, I think she is beginning to doubt my intentions.

I've had 50/50. Although I've only hatched 3 golds all were girls.

This is Max. He is about 29 weeks old and is 28" tall.
He's very timid and shy.

Brahmas are beautiful!! I'd love to keepa Brahma hen when I eventually get started. Would it be a good idea to get two, so she doesn' get picked on by the other breeds? (I'm hoping for Wyandottes or Black Rocks and ex-battery hens)

Brahmas are very docile birds and do get picked on by other breeds, so be careful what other breeds you go for. Should not be such a problem if you get them all at a young age and are all of a docile breed.

Also I would think it would be better to go for a couple, then at least they could pair off.(Mind you once you get a brahma , you're hooked.)

I hope you do get your brahmas, they are very loving and have great personalities. Smile

Thanks pepsi. I can't really start a flock yet, as I'm in a flat. Just researching now so I know what to do when I am actually able to get going. But I love the look of Brahmas, they seem really cuddly!

Graham - my first Brahma - arrived here about 10 days ago and has settled in nicely. Come the start of next year I shall be looking to take on a few Gold/BP hens for him to keep happy.

Stuart.

Thank-you both. We're quite taken with him too and our neighbours have described him as 'a hoot' (I hope they don't have him confused with an owl Smile ).

He was first up this morning, just before dawn, trying his hardest to squeeze out a proper crow but doesn't quite have it in him yet. More of a deep warbling cluck at present.
