This photo is of a beautiful lavender araucana cockerel I once had, named Milo.
Araucanas are fairly quiet birds in my experience; not big crowers but they do have flighty tendencies. They can be tamed, however, with correct handling and patience.

I just love the way they talk to you, so sweet.

Love my girls Cyd and Nancy - Cyd (at the back in the picture) was a bit of a vicious little pecker when I first got her, but now eats out of my hand with no blood drawn!

I've already thought about that - but love the idea of my silkies raising them - all natural and snuggly!!!!

Oh but there is nothing like hand rearing chicks - they trust you so much for everything

Oh and when they are due to hatch! That is truly the meaning of the agony and the ecstasy!!! So hard to keep your hands off them to 'help' a little!

Chicken bliss Laughing

Sorry to interrupt... erm... Embarassed ...but I've got some araucanas and some information about araucanas...

They're originally from chile, where they were kept by the arauca indians for eggs and meat. The Spanish invaded in 1532 and word spread about these odd chickens, these weren't all modern-day araucanas, they were the foundation stock.
In the 1800s, the breed spread through the whole continent (South America), but it wasn't until the 1930s that it landed in britain, when a ship carrying some was wrecked off the outer hebrides. And not until 1973 that a standard and breed club was established.

My pleasure, by the way.
Pictures and more info soon.
