Utility strain means that the most productive birds are bred from. Bred for egg laying or meat depending on the breed. If you are a backyard flock its best to go for birds like this as they should be more hardy and more productive than say a show strain.
Many of the hybrids are bred from utility strains of pure bred poultry. They are getting harder to come across. |

Hi all
Well the 48 hatching eggs i purchased from the gentleman at Lansdown, Bath i candled them last week and 41 are fertile.
They are due out on Wednesday 23/7/08, i will let you know. |
