As I'm not an expert (but a lot of you on here are) I'd like to ask about blue eggs. As I understand it blue eggs are only laid by Araucana and Cream Legbars and some crosses. Is that true? Also are the eggs all a sort of pale blue or are there any really sky blue egg layers? At the moment I have eggs of every hue except blue and then that should be all the chickens I need.......Did I say that last bit.....!

To produce a blue egg, there must be araucana in the breed - which is why Cream Legbars do. The eggs can vary in colour from sky blue to pale green. I'm still trying to work out who deposited a sky blue one in the bantam run yesterday - first time layer, but I've got a lot of Oddlots in there too.

I'd forgotten that some of the older Cream legbars were in there as they are too brown to go with the breeders - at over 30 weeks now, it would have been one of them.
