Eh? What's that? A bit less of the stereotyping, if you don't mind!!! |

Careful or you may end up wishing you hadn't
I'm no expert but I'm pretty sure that blue that breeds true is in fact lavender, at least where chickens are concerned. Lavender and blue are two of the main genes for 'blueness'.
relevant link
Note: pekin bantams is not just about pekins as someone in that thread suggests. In fact they have a very nice set of articles on poultry genetics if you want to get into that side of things.
For some reason the link to page 2 is broken so here is the correct link for page two.
Just found a really good page on the blue gene |

|
|
Hello all, just found this site today it is fantastic!
I have purchased today a pair of gold laced Orpingtons from my local poultry auction for the absolte bargain price of £10 and i am totally in love. I already have 2 aracuna bantams, but my new guys are HUGE!
The question i have is that they have very scaly feet, i have smothered them in vaseline but could this possibly be mites?? They look otherwise very healthy with the exception that they need a bath!
Any ideas please & i will post some pictures of them soon. |

Scaley leg is quite common & you're doing the right thing by putting vaseline on their legs. This is one method that's used to kill off the mites. |

|
|
Hi,
I am posting this message because i have had one of the most terrible weeks ever. I have been breeding L/F orpingtons for the last 2 years and had some stunning birds. I got to our field Tuesday morning 11th march,, to find the gate open. The chain had been cut and i have had every bird stolen, i am sat here in total shock. Not only have they taken my beautiful birds, but all the elctrified poultry fencing, energiser, batteries, feeders, over £2000 worth of birds and stuff. How can anyone do this! I am so hearbroken. I am going to list all missing birds tomorrow, so i know this is a long shot but if anyone knows of any birds being entered late in to any poultry auction, or anything, please any help would be so welcome. So heatbroken and so angry.
Please be aware of this increase in poultry theft, as the rare breeds seem to be a vulnerable target.
Thanks all Jane

So sorry to hear your terrible news. Someone on this forum already posted that you'd had them stolen.
I hope they catch the b******s! |
