| One of my ex bat chickens has started to lay eggs smeared with blood. She seems well enough otherwise - eating, drinking etc. Her comb and wattles are a healthy red colour. The area around her vent is a bit dirty (diarrhoea?) and she seems to have a bit of a discharge. Any advice please? |

| Clean up the whole area with warm water and check it for wounds. You probably won't find any. If you do, treat with either salt water or Savlon. Eggs passing down the passage sometimes cause a "graze" - it should clear up fairly soon. Keep an eye on her if she seems a bit "loose" and don't feed her any treats for a while. If she is still happy in herself then there shouldn't be much to worry about. |

I have a hen that lays eggs that has dried blood stains on too. I have to wipe them but none of the others. I suppose it's a bit like straining to go to the loo so not surprised really. I'm glad i don't have to pass anything that size every day or i might lay some stained with blood too. (sorry fellas but you are after all, men of the world)!. |
