This isn't a poultry question but does anyone know if I can put wound powder on a cat's wound?
I know that cat's are strange & what you can use on a dog may not be good for cats.
My poor Cleo has a large hole near the base of her tail which is clean & neat around the edges but fairly deep: no bleeding.
She seems unconcerned but obviously I would like to prevent any infection getting in before visiting the vet. |

My cat wound experience has been about absesses, which is a bit different. I was told by the vet with those, that I needed to break it open and push all the pus out, and to keep knocking the scab off. But a hole is probabably quite different.
Sorry I can't help more. I hope Cleo gets on ok, and that it doesnt cost you an arm and a leg fixing him up. |

| If Cleo can clean it, leave well alone. It's only the bits they can't reach that usually cause trouble. |

The only problem I can see with leaving it alone is that it's so deep. Will she be able to keep it clean right inside enough for it to heal without getting infected?
She really doesn't seem that bothered with it & is acting normally, except when you pick her up to look at it! But then she doesn't like being picked up at the best of times. |

Oh no, poor baby, do you know how she got it? We had someone in at work this week that said he puts Aloe Vera gel on all his pets wounds/sore bits and they heal in no time. |

Clean with any human antiseptic wipes/solution or make a solution of boiled water and salt. You can put something like savlon on it we use it on our cats) and make sure the wound stays clean. If a scab forms and no sign of infection/swelling leave all alone. If pus forms soak of scab to release.
Obviously if wound is deep, pus keeps forming or cat feels hot take it to the vets.
Our cats are always getting small wounds and we treat them as above with no problems. Plus cats are very good at keeping wounds clean if they can reach them

Here's a pic of her wound.
There's actually 2 holes, one deeper than the other.
I think she's been attacked by a local tom cat that's been hanging around lately. He's tried getting in the catflap several times & as Kimi has also been coming in with unexplained scratches & small wounds I think this big ginger cat is being a problem.
Unfortunately he lives further down the lane at a neighbours house & it's very difficult to dissuade cats from wandering around our garden when we have 2 of our own. |

| OUCH!! That looks really sore!!! Does it need a stitch? you could put a butterfly strip over just to pull it together until it scabs over on its own. Big old brute, he obviously did that to her when she was trying to get away from him too!!! |

It might be wise to get your vet to have a look at it. Any puncture wound, especially if done by an animals teeth, can lead to deep seated infection or an abscess, especially near a joint. An antibiotic may be needed.
Good luck, Ann. |

That looks as though it has gone completely through the skin layer I think I would take the cat to the vets with one like that as it probably needs a stitch.
Hope all goes well.

| One of my farm cats came back with exactly the same wound. It looked really red and raw. Although I can stroke them and pick them up, they are not happy with anything more. I did manage to bathe the wound with warm water, and then left it. A couple of days later, it looked much better, so cat had obviously licked it herself. Problem with putting anything on cats, is their liking for licking themselves, so any cream will be licked off. |

That wound is too deep for another cat to have caused it.
It looks like tears from barbed wire to me. In which case she needs to go to the vets to have it cleaned, some antibiotics to stop any infection and a couple of stitches. |
