Have you got enough to treat ALL your flock? As it is contagious so the others may well develop symptoms

If you were to read Sasha's first post, she say's she has 60 birds and they will all probably need treating.

Have you been back to the Cochin thread to read ALL of that?

Have you forgotten your manners???????? Rolling Eyes

In the first post Sasha says they will all probably get it, the infection not the treatment

oops sorry guys i did not mean to cause any trouble.
Embarassed
I am so fed up i mixed up the dose i had left in the bottle ready for the morning so dh can give them the last of it but the hens that were not isolated who were looking a lot healthier are mostly now sneezing the symptoms are watery noses and then there are a few who are starting to get the secondry infection on the chests wheezing then progresses to rattling after listening with my head/ear to their chests tonight so i will be on the phone in the morning to get some more a-biotics for the remainder.

I am amazed at how well it has spread though the flock despite the attempts i made to isolate them i suppose the cold weather has not helped and the fact they are moulting Sad i am just wondering now what sort of timescale i am looking at for complete recovery for them all Question the ones i have isolated are all still sneezing and there are few who still have rattles on the chest.

to look at the girls who were ok but now seem to also have it ,they are still very livley and out and about in the run the only thing that looks wrong on some of them is their colour its not rosy red on their combs its a darker red but not purple if you get what i mean.

oh well i have not lost any yet and the ones who are isolated look pretty much with it still bright eyes still very interested in scratching about in the sawdust i have thrown a load of mixed corn in daily to keep them occupied whilst they are shut in i just want to see them all recover now it feels like an eternity its been the longest two weeks ever watching them all go down sick like this and being helpless other than putting their baytril in their drinking water poor things.

Have you tried Tylan soluble on them yet Sasha? I take either 10 or 20 ex batts each year. Normally to feather up, then pass on to people who want pet friendly chickens.
I always put them on a 7 day program of Tylan. The best way of administering it is to mix the correct amount of tylan with water. Then soak it into flaked maize, or corn flakes will do if you food supplier does not do flaked maize. Once then have become accustomed to the smell /taste of the tylan you can just have the solution in their drinkers. Though this time of year a few extra calories with the maize won't really hurt them.

it's tylan soluble(TS) we're talking rather than tylan inject-able, the later is faster acting for more chronic cases.

The TS is sold in 100g bottles, I usually dissolve 3mg of powder in 200ml of cool water. Remember to sprinkle the powder slowly on the water surface to avoid it going lumpy. When TS is dissolved sprinkle on your flaked maize let it soak in for 15-20 minutes then serve viola!! If your birds have not had flaked maize before put some mixed corn on top to get them started.

Hope that helps

Tim

Best of luck with them!

Thanks for the advice Tim i did enquire with the vet about tylan after speaking to everyone on here but the vet recomended the baytril and told me they are roughly the same cost and the tylan would be their next choice .Does your vet charge cheaper for tylan or is it about the same ?i thought after it all next time i will go to another local vet just to compare prices as there are loads around my area although the one i went to does deal with a lot of agricultural animals more than domestic and the vet who recomended the treatment was their fowl vet.

what an improvement with the girls they are all coming right most of them have feathered up and are coming back into lay althought there are a couple who are still sneezing but all the secondry infections like the rattling on the chests has well gone and everyone has bright glossy eyes again and wattles and combs are coming back nice are rosey. Very Happy

its just the weaker girls who are still in moult who have the sneezes at the moment but i am keeping a close eye on them and they seem to be improving by the day as it has run its course now thankfully and swept through every single bird

its great to see them improving and they all deserve a good chance at a few more years of being around as they have the freindliest tempraments its a joy to have them around the place Very Happy i have never seen birds go so crazy over mixed corn either they love the stuff i mean my other girls enjoy it but not on the scale this lot do they literally jump on my arms and back as i scoop it out the feed sack to fill the feeders trying to get at it i even had one of the clamber onto my head the other day as i was leaning over lol Laughing
