Hi all,
following on from mojo's idea, I am thinking of doing egg and equipment deliveries to central France. I can transport up to 500+ eggs securely in a separate compartment in the van. I am usually over every 4-6 weeks.

Is this something that members would be interested in? In the spring and summer do you require small numbers on a regular basis or just do one big hatch a year?
I would welcome any feedback or suggestions.

Ian.

Ian, Thanks once again for the offer.
The logistics of bringing hatching eggs over will have to be very carefully timed. Hatching eggs have a relatively short viability time, 10 - 14 days maximum, therefore those that want eggs would need to source them and get them delivered to you a couple of days before you are due to come over, and then arrange collection or perhaps we could sort out some sort of courier system between ourselves.

A lot to think about and sort out Wink Laughing

Hi Sylvia

I was thinking along the lines of: I post to say when I am next over, week or two notice. People source there eggs and have them sent to me as you say, within a day or two of my ferry. I am in N/W haute vienne the next day so there is a good size window for collection.

I am ex gamekeeper so I am familiar with fertility time and the daily care of hatching eggs. As long as people can source the freshest eggs there should be time enough to rest the eggs before incubation.

Our nearest town would be Bussiere Poitevine, it's about 15 minutes north of Bellac.

Could something be sorted for deliveries to be brought further South/southwest. Angloueme or Perigueux.?

Hi Newby

It is possible but probably not cost effective. For me to drive to Angloueme and back it would cost about £40 just in fuel.

However, if there where several people in or around your area the cost could be shared, making it more reasonable.

Might be worth checking with the french authorities about bringing eggs as they get funny about poultry products, I dread to think what they may say about live eggs.

Otherwise an excellent idea especially for table bird varieties.

Hi Mike

Can't say they have ever been interested in what I am carrying, including eggs.

As for them being "live". Not until incubation has started. Until then they are just eggs Smile
