When I got my 16wk girls (1 was a Welsummer), they were all extremley terrified of me, its taken huge effort for them not to yell the place down when I pick them up, in fact they almost coo at me now once there caught, but catching them is still a different issue, you would think they've just witnessed me slaughter all my other chooks and they think there next..

Its I'm sure just a matter of time, but unfortunately theres a lot of hard work to put in as well, to build up their confidence.

Our Welsummers are not the most friendliest of birds but do not panic as much as that.

She will settle down once she gets to know you & realise you're no threat. Food is always a good way of taming chickens. Wink

You may have to accept she may never be a 'cuddly' one though! Rolling Eyes

I'll get the raisins out and 'persuade' her. She's also laying shell-less eggs, yuck! Will bribe her with catfood today & see if I can kill two birds with one....unfortunate use of saying, sorry! Laughing

Just got a trio of Gold Duckwing Welsummers lovely brown eggs and the cockerel is stunning. Gone a bit welsummer mad here, hatched 5 bantams sunday evening and have 6 silver duckwing bants with 6 silver duckwing LF in the incy:)

You were right, Bhindi! Summer is well settled in and though she's bottom of our little troupe, she's a lovely little thing. Not eating out of my hand yet but very curious and bright. Have gotten very fond of her in a few short weeks. Wish I could have a cockerel, they're so dramatic.
