As there are a couple of knitters on here, i just thought I'd mention Ravelry.
Here At the moment it's still by invitation only, but you sign up to request an invite on the front page there.

Basically it is just the hugest database of yarn and patterns - pretty much everything you could imagine, including patterns from within books and magazines. it is US based but as the content depends on the members there's plenty of UK stuff in there.

You get an account and can if you want list all your stash, and books/magazines and ongoing/finished projects, so you know what you have and what tensions they are etc. But the best thing is you can see patterns made up by people in all the different yarns and sizes and see how it looks in real life, and not just in a photographers dream world on a size 0 model!!!! There is a slight "facebook" element too in that you can have friends and see what they are up to.

There are forums and groups too - but to be honest it's all a bit big to get involved in those, and some are quite unfriendly Sad But just as a resource for knitters (and crocheters and spinners) it is really quite incredible and very very useful!

Yes, like Nanny Noo - maybe you could add "na" to the end, give it a sort of nursery song feel, as in Nanny Noona - no? Laughing

I was quite fortunate in that my Mum taught all of us girls to Knit, sew, crochet, smock and quilt, but I haven't done any of it for years. In preparation for retirement I bought a load of material oddments and knitting wool ready to start again. The 2 bin bags full of knitting wool and the huge box with all my sewing stuff in still haven't been unpacked
Rolling Eyes
I also found in a charity shop a book called The Complete Encyclopedia of Stitchcraft which I have been reading through and using as a reminder.

One day, when all the building work is finished, I will be able to get it all out, hopefully.
(This posted with my last line missing Question )
I will probably have quite a few questions once I am able to get myself sorted and the Revelry site sounds as though it could be quite interesting.

Do you know, I just couldn't get my head round ravelry. It all seemed very alien somehow, and I haven't been back to have a look for quite a while. I just wondered how long it would take me to input all the information about works in progress, stashes etc.... I have an awful lot of unfinished projects, and "bargain" lots of wool and cotton from e-bay and elsewhere. But seeing your post has made me think I ought to go back and have another look... maybe I'm missing something! Smile

It is quite time consuming to put stuff in to begin with (I am lucky i don't have a huge stash) But personally I find the best bit being able to browse through patterns and then look at other people's versions and what modifications they've done, and what yarn they've used. it's great when you find you have yarn that you don't know what to do with.

I'm Auntienoo on there too! Smile
