Just wanted to ask a question, is it true that if you keep animals, even on a small bit of land in France you get money from the goverment?

I remember hearing somewhere that most farms in france are quite small and the French goverment wants to promote this by giving subsadies? Even for a small smallholding, which im sure some of you have?

Thanks Richard

that's right, but it's pretty difficult to get money from the government( Laughing ), with poultry.

Actually, some farmers can get some help from their "région" if they keep rare breeds like cows, pigs, sheeps......
They have to fill a lot of documents and answer the requirements of the DSV (Direction des Services Vétérinaires).

sorry to shatter your dreams but it is not as easy as that. as we have 20 hectares and it is almost not worth the hassele or the expense of paying the 2500 euros a year minimum cotistations. to get 14euros ayear per sheep at a stocking level of 7ish ,to the hectare and in our reagion it is about ten years wait for cow subsidy, and then only if your nan and grandad were born in the barn that the cows are to be kept in
