I hope he gets better and they other two too. His bed sounds nice, you are doing everything you could possibly do.

You haven't been chickening that long, do you think you were sold three already sick chickens??

Gracious Sad it's seems to spreading quickly.
Would it be worth doing them all - at this rate???

Sorry I have no words of wisdom - but you do have my thoughts and concern.

going to worm them all but not sure now if the flubenvet works on gape worm

no Aussie Ive had these well 2 of them from 2 week old i hear it can be caused by earth worms or snails slugs wild birds but mainly on soil which my run now is as they have eaten all the vegetation.

Ta 4 the links both Debs and no i hadn't seen the second page but Ive been running round like a blue a**** fly

It will work on gapeworm but I believe the dosage should be doubled. It will tell you on the label/packet. (mine is out in the shed, so I can't look right now)

Whereabouts are you deanojul67? Are you able to buy Flubenvet off the shelf locally? Usually a feedstore or Countrystore-type place will probably sell it.

On the strength of this I have ordered some flubenvet and also some Coxoid from wormers.co.uk, seemed to be the cheapest and no P&P.

Anyone tell me how much you need to put in with the food, what the ratio is?? I already put Diatom in, this is an extra precaution.

I have seen the First aid box in golden nuggets, anything else that is a must have in stock either out of what is in that post or anything else?

I can add this to my growing list of things for newbies what I am compiling!! Rolling Eyes

Could I make a suggestion to all those reading this thread and having growing concerns for their own flocks....if you would like to worm your girls...that's ok. But I would not go rushing out and purchasing all of the meds and supplements on the first aid box list, as they all will have expiration dates. It would be a good thing to take the list to your local feed store and vet to see what is locally available in the event you do need to go search it out. If it is only available by website, then just search out the best deal for you and bookmark it.

I will admit that Dean is having a heck of a go with things right now, but we all end up taking our turns through the disease and treatment program. I have gone through Mareks twice now and myco is pretty much always present...knock wood I do not have one girl in the house being treated for something at the moment.

Dean, how's Rocky doing now? I hope he wakes you up by the side of your bed with an all out crow. Wink

I agree with Deb, I think he needs more...

IIRC someone posted elsewhere recently that a chicken needs about 125ml of water a day. I make that 25 teaspoons worth... A sick bird will probably need less, but still needs quite a bit. Just like people are still encouraged to drink lots of fluids when we're ill?

I'd be trying to get him to drink little and often - maybe even a couple of spoonfuls every hour during the day if you could? I know that might not be practical...

I don't know - not had to deal with a simillar situation personally. What does anyone else think is enough fluid for a sick chicken?

To answer the question re flubenvet and gape worm... yes, Flubenvet DOES treat gape worm at the normal, usual dosage rate (1.2g per 1kg of food).

The double dose rate has been a suggested way to treat tapeworm - but this is off licence use of the product and should only be followed if you suspect you have a tapeworm problem and it has been recommended to you by your vet.

Thanks Lisa - I stand corrected on the double dose issue. As I wasn't sure, I did say to read the label for the correct dosage.
I did know it dealt with gapeworm though, but not had to treat my girls for that (yet).

I hope Rocky & the others are doing better today. Please keep us informed.
