| are they uk sussex or french bourboug(think how its spelt) which the french also call sussex........i have found it very difficult to find UK looking birds especially utilitys that breed pure the great majority over her are farmyard birds that look a bit like pure breeds..............and of course they show to differant standards than we had in UK |

They were purchased from the local Cooperative Agricole as "Sussex" but who knows
Reasonably local to me are two breeders of Light Sussex and Bantam LS. |

Here some pictures of my hens and boy, have no idea what they are though, just that they have just started laying again after a three month blip!
Ralphie, is only a young lad, he has just discovered that he is a boy, and has shown that he likes the ladies, he has also just started making attempts at crowing, sounds like a party blower type thingy, makes the strangest of noises! |

I have a friend that lives in Bulgaria and owns lots of chickens . They don't appear to have any pure breeds , all look cross this and that .
Also if you think some of the French poultry are scrawny , then wait till you see Bulgarian poultry
I do like the French Marans though , nice and dark , would imagne the eggs are darker than English Maran hens ?
Keep the pictures coming , like them all , always interesting to see diffrent strains . |

This is Mrs Maran, a gift from Mojo, the start of my French hen keeping
This is Mme Pantacourt, a descendant of a French Brahma hen and a British Brahma coq

Very nice Nannyp
Brahmas and Marans are two of my favorite breeds .
Notice the French marans are darker than here in England .
I did look on a French forum and notice some maran eggs that looked almost Blakish - brown , they were incredibly dark . |

Yes, Marans eggs here are incredibly dark...mine (when she lays) are dark, but I have seen darker....James hatched some really dark eggs earlier this year....'bout time he showed his face |
