I'm here for a few days with work for a European Trainers Jolly (sorry, meeting), going over german beers and food, with a brief look at training courses. Tonight I'm climbing a gas tower...

I renovated a couple of old hives and started with bees recently. No honey as yet because the colonies are still establishing. It's very rewarding Knobby you should give it a go. The thing to remember with old hives is once you have cleaned them up and scraped all the crud off and maybe sanded them if you have to, its as well to go over the insides of the boxes lightly with a blow torch just to kill off any moulds or nasties or what-nots. The hives I got had been very nastily painted with thick white gloss which took ages to get off and now I have coated them in linseed oil and they look like new although they are probably over 20 years old. Had to buy all new guts for the insides tho, thats quite expensive.

Oh and you get to wear a cool disguise so the bees don't recognise you.
