The more I've been reading on here about worms, the more I've been worrying(there's a change ) that we haven't wormed our hens properly. The reason being, is because the lady we bought them and all the food etc from, said the wormer was in the pellets.
I just checked the bag today and it does have Flubenvet added. Is this enough to keep worms at bay?
It's a big sack, and as we only have 2 hens will probably last us for another 6 months at least. Will it be safe for them to have it all the time? They do seem to be constantly hungry...just checking that this is just normal hen behaviour? |

| I didn't know that. My hens are constantly hungry, and would eat the whole bag I think if I put it in the feeders! |

| You don't know how lucky you are to have some. I had to order it and wait for several weeks when I wanted some. The answer to your query is that it is the simplest way of worming, but I would email Marriages to ask them about how long you can feed it for - there should be a use by date on the sack. |

I have just rung them, and was told that the vitamin content and wormer are guaranteed for 3 months. The lady I spoke to was very helpful and did say that it would probaby be ok to use for a couple of weeks after that, but the vitamin quality would start decreasing.
She also said it's fine to feed them all the time with it.
I have over half a sack left!! Anyone who lives near me is welcome to come and get some or I'll be throwing it all away.
(I'm on Suffolk/Cambridgeshire/Essex boarder and about an hour from Norwich!)
Would anyone like to go halves with me on another 20K bag?
I did ask if they made smaller ones, but she said they were going to be doing 10K bags at some point. |

| we used to be able to buy medicated feed loose at our feed merchants [Ivanhoe at Ashby de la Zouch] when we lived in the UK it's so much easier than using the powder |

| Alas, things have changed and medicated food is not supposed to be sold loose. |

After my conversation with Marriage's (about use by date), I realised it was time to buy more pellets, even though we have half a bag of the layers pellets with wormer left.
I went to our local animal feed place and bought the plain layers pellets, but asked about getting the ones with wormer. She said that they have to write out a prescription, which they send of to marriage's who send the pellets???????? Also, she told me you're only supposed to feed them these pellets for 1 week! We've been feeding ours with them since June!
Does anyone on here know what's the right amount and time and can animal feed places write out prescriptions? |

AFAIK Flubenvet is fed for 7 days only, but you can dose monthly if necessary as it says on the pot. Nothing about it being used constantly though! What does it say on the bag? |

Nothing, but I have just rung them and they said you only have to use it for a week, but it's ok to use for longer.
I hope they hurry up with their 10kg bags, as it seems such a waste to chuck half a sack away. |

Hello
I use Marriage`s feed with the flubenvet added, I usually have some left over after feeding for the week, but continue to feed it until its all gone. Birds are all OK and I worm in the spring and autumn.
I don`t think that I have ever signed for the wormer pellet, although I have to sign for the medicated chick crumb.
regards

| After browsing today I was surprised to see you could buy layers with Flubenvet added. I rang Marriages who were very helpful, and because I didnt have a local stockist who was licensed to sell this product gave me the phone number of one who not only supplied but did mail order. After a pleasant and informative chat, my pellets are being delivered tomorrow. |
