And there is no Red Mite infestation going on?
How old is she? (Wasn't she hatched at the same time as the buff orps?) |

Lisa, I'm sorry to hear about Lara, but pleased that you've made the right decision for her ~ so many eople having to make the decision these days. Do you think has anaything to do with the odd weather we've had this summer ~ extreme heat and then rain by the gallon?
Sorry to hear about your light sussex, Knobby, hope she's just having an off-day and picks up for you. |

I can't remember a time when so many people were having problems like these. Symptoms but no apparent cause. I wonder if it is the stress of the heat too.
Lisa - so sorry about Lara, it must be heartbreaking for you
Knobby - keep us posted on the LS |

Oh Lisa - so sorry to hear about Lara.
You were so good when I lost my girl - I really hoped you would have a happy ending. I'm really sad that it didn't turn out that way. Feel for you honey. |

Just spoke to the vet about Lara. The main thing she found on PM was liver failure. She said her liver was tiny (compared to what it should be). Her abdomen was becoming swollen (as Ninja's had) but this was because of a build up of fluid internally due to the liver problems. No sign of any tumour, like Ninja (and the other vet did comment on what a lovely healthy liver Ninja had).
The good news, she said, is it was just bad luck, a "one-off", possibly genetic ie there were no obvious signs of anything other disease, or anything that could be transmitted to my other chickens.
So that's two "one-offs" in my original 4 chickens then. If only I had such a good rate with good luck I'd run out and buy a handful of lottery tickets!! |

Well I'm pleased Lisa that it wasn't about you or your husbandry (not that i thought it was) but that must be reassuring.
I hope you have more luck soon, and maybe the Lottery Ticket idea is a good one
I you win, remember who prompted you to go buy it! (Unless you win a tenner, then I'll let you off ) |

| I'm pleased the vet came up with the answer she did. We all know you did everything for your girls, but it's nice to have someone else verify it |

Yes, you're both right - it IS such a big relief to know for sure that the others are okay.
Of course I still have another tough decision to make...
.... big shed and only 3 chickens....... |
