Well my little dutch banty with the swollen sinus has been to the vet.
A lovely (young) girl checked her out, not at all fazed that I walked into a small (well she is small ) animal practice with a chook.
She actually knew about microplasma (thank you to all the members who have discussed previously) and agrees it could be.
So, banty is tucked back up having had her first dose of Baytril, so fingers crossed.
The vet has taken my telephone number and is going to do some more research and will contact me if she finds anything, how good is that to have someone who actually cares about a little chicken.
ps. she's also had Frontline - the powder hasn't touched her creepy crawlies. |

| This bears out what I have said before - unless you take poultry to your usual vet, they'll never learn more about chicken. A good vet will do just as yours has - deal with what they know or suspect, then go off and find out more. |

This morning I was watching a vet/Zoo program (I'm not a daytime tv person normally, just feeling poorly today)... and I watched a vet spay a hen, he seemed to feel he needed to justify to the viewers that he's not species biased when treating animals, and was more than willing to treat a hen. But good on him. She had an egg take the wrong route which had caused peritonitus, but the hen was not poorly because of it. She survived her op so all ended well |
