I have used the injectable Tylan but as another person has said it is not licensed for poultry - mainly because it can have quite severe side-effects like respiratory arrest and death, but if the bird is so poorly and nothing else has worked ..... In my opinion it is worth the risk. Injected into breast - works very quickly for mycoplasma.

Any info welcome

Chris, is your vet local to Wales or Cheshire?

My vet is in St Clears, S W Wales, Dusty - a bit far for you me thinks - but you should be able to find one a bit nearer. Just be firm and state what you want.

I haven't had a problem with the injection, a friend did but her vet said that its easy to inject into the heart (which would cause an arrest) and even they get it wrong sometimes. I guess if you have a sick bird its a chance you take - I just try and make sure I get it in the right place and not go too deep.

If you can get your vet to prescribe a complete pot of the soluble Tylan, it means that you can dose a bird as soon as it shows the first symptoms of mycoplasma. They usually respond. It's only if they don't, or when you've had to wait about for Tylan soluble, that injections become necessary.

If you have doubts about the injection site wouldn't a meaty leg muscle be OK?
