Just recieved the 12 Barnevelder eggs that hubby sourced for me. I know the last lot I had were all brown, ranging from dark to mid brown, these lot range from darkish brown to almost light cream - is this right? The person hubby got them from has quite a few different breeds.

If these are LF then they ought to be brown. If they are bantams and you've got brown eggs, then you have a potential goldmine.

As Henwife says, The colour of the LF eggs should be dark brown.
We're all searching for the bantam that lays the darkest eggs! Sadly, the 4 I bought last Saturday all came from light eggs. Sad

They are LF Barnevelders - if they turn out small I'll sell for a few million Laughing . Just been told by someone who has Barnevelders that as the year goes on and moulting approaches some of her older hens lay lighter, cream coloured eggs so I will stop worrying for now. Out of the 12, thought I was only getting 6 Very Happy , 1 broke, 7 are dark to mid brown, 4 are cream coloured and 1 is almost white so we shall wait and see - from the last lot I know what colour the chicks should be.

When it comes to hatching, try to work out a method of keeping the dark eggs in one place so you know which chicks carry a good dark egg gene. Brown eggs do get paler as laying progresses, but usually to a light brown rather than cream - but you've got more than you expected, so rejoice.
