Update of tiggers, he/she is eating better now and taking his sugar water, drank a whole dish full yesterday. He's still asleep after feeding but he's so weak that doesnt surprise me.
I think he/she is going to make it. Not sure he'll get to 600gms by October though, as he's so emaciated. I can over winter him in the garage though and set him free come spring next year. Will try and get a photo of him today to post up. |

Oh dear!
I went out to take a photo of him, and he had died since I checked him this morning.
I'm not really surprised. He was so thin, and when I weighed him he was just under 200gms and he should have weighed 600gms. I thought he was too far gone, but I had hoped I could nurse him better and feed him up.
Still at least he died in peace, in the warm and with some food in his tummy. Bless his little heart. I feel quite upset although I was half expecting it. I'll bury him today in the hedge by the field. |

sad news but glad he managed to get some food in his belly - might have just been too much of a shock to the system if it's been a long time since he last fed. |

| Thats what I think Vikki. He hadnt eaten for quite a while by the looks of him, and I gave him a 25% chance of survival, just didnt want to admit he was too far gone really. Never give up is my motto! |

Well done for trying! I saw one in the road here a few days ago curled up -was walking the dogs, think it curled up when it heard them. I only usually see them flattened, so I lifted it and moved it to safety - hope it wasn't crossing the road the other way! |

At least you gave him/her a little comfort before it happened Pekinout. Poor little thing. |

| Oh what a shame ....but at least you did your best to help the poor hedgehog. Like you say, it was probably just too thin and could not cope. |

Anytime you see a hedgehog out during the day there is likely to be something wrong with it - they are strictly nocturnal and only come out during the day if they are sick or blind (apparently). |

this is a good site if you find a sick hedgehog, they'll give you the number of your nearest wildlife vet and there's good advice on the site about caring for sick hedgehogs.
There aren't many hedgehogs around these days, what with all the traffic and badgers eating them. |
