A little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing I was doing some research online and read that poorly chickens should have at least two crop full of water per day and I thought ooh - best give her some more water.
Well I was thinking because she had her beak open she wanted some more - unfortunately I think it's because I flooded her lungs and she died right there in front of me.
I'm absolutely distraught. |

Awwwwww, Debs2, it's a hard thing to go through. I'm so sorry. She might have gone no matter what. You may not have even have been the cause. But I will tell you one thing.....
She went, knowing that she was loved and cared for. That you were doing all you could to try and help her.

I'm sorry. Maybe Knobby will share his rainbow land story with you...it always seems to help. |

I am so sorry
from what you have said on other posts it sounds like she was not going to recover
You certainly did everything that you could for her,
You have had a really tough introduction to keeping hens |

Please don't blame yourself. You did your best for her under the circumstances, & she was cared for & loved by you. She may not have survived anyway.
It's not easy with any animal as they can't tell you what or where it's hurting.
So sorry for you. |

Thanks everyone.
I promised I wouldnt cry again today but then I got Rainbow Bridge in my message box!! Thanks Knobby
We will be burying her today - and hopefully this afternoon will be going to look at some more chickens. (This time the place has been recommended!)
So hopefully my future posts will more happy about my new girls.
Thanks once again everyone - you have all been so supportive and it has been really appreciated. |

so sorry to hear of your loss. Please don't blame yourself you did everything you could for her and you were only ever trying to give her the best that you could.
On a lighter note, look at it a different way, you've dealt with the bad side of keeping chickens, now it can only get better and you can have fun with them.
Good luck this afternoon |

| I think I may have done the same thing myself, debs. It's hard to know when enough is enough and whether you are doing right, but at least you were trying to help. |

we ALL have failures and upsets the good lord didnt think to teach chickens to talk human to tell us thier problems....so we have to do the very best we can for them to the best of our ability.......so sorrow but not grieve say a little prayer just to yourself " i will try to do more" if you keep to that you will have the wonderous pleasure that we all get from keeping chickens.........luv mojo |
