I'm an allotment holder Egirl and love it but it does need very regular attention!
A raised bed in the garden is much the best way to begin before commiting yourself to a whole plot but try not to expect too much first go!
Only grow stuff you love (bugger the OH unless they help!) and think of them as tasty snacks rather than self sufficiency! Even with my 2 plots we're not completely self sufficient in fruit and veg, the best laid plans can be foiled horribly by the weather, pests, viruses, vandals etc....this year is a case in point!
Happy growing and I hope you get the bug! |

| Thanks Hev, & welcome! I think I have a good balance now, the raised bed will have enough to keep me occupied and a little room for experiments. While I'd love an allotment, I;m pretty happy to do with this for now, until I'm sure I will keep it up. I would also like to grow flowers in it one year, so maybe when I get the plot I can do flowers at home. think I have the bug already! |

Plant some nasturtiums next spring, then you get flowers you can put on a salad along with the leaves! And if you get overrun, feed surplus leaves to the hens! |

Egirl, glad to see there is someone out there as mad as me.
I don't do clothes shopping but let me loose in a garden centre or agricultural place and i'm in heaven, hence why i've few clothes |

I have decided to spend many hundreds of euros (that I don't really have) on my new secure run, and resented spending €22 on a pair of winter boots for work today! I think my priorities are perfectly in order! |

Update: Cheapo winter boots are very comfy and spinach, nasturtiums, lettuce and herbs all doing well in the new plot. |

Had to buy a new pair of 'muckers' yesterday as the others were leaking but that's ok as I wear them everyday to sort chickens / birds and garden.
Had some lovely red peppers today from polytunnel |
