As per my post in humidity debate here is lavendar pekin chick no 1 - hatched overnight. Hubby wants to call it Anni as it is our 22nd wedding anniversary today! No 2 is pecking away at the moment little beak poking through. No signs of anything in the other pekin eggs or any of my legbar eggs!

Looks like only 2 lavendar pekins are going to hatch. Bit disappointing. No signs of anything happening with the legbars. Will give them till Tues (day 25) but doesn't look hopeful. Moved these two into the brooder this am and they seem very happy! Smile

Thanks for all the congrats! Have already ordered some more eggs for the inccy! Have managed to find some red saddled Yokohamas, Columbian Blue Brahmas and Barbu D'Anvers. Here's to the next hatching! How long do the chicks need to stay under the lamp in the brooder for - is it 4 weeks?

The norm is around 6 weeks, but it all depends where they are. They could come off earlier if they were in the house. In a shed or outside though, it would have to be 6 really. At 4 weeks you could try taking them off heat during the day and only having the lamp on at night and see how they go. All depends on your chicks!

Thanks Jen. They are in a brooder in the utility room so hopefully if we have a bit of a summer in 4 weeks they can just have the lamp at night! We live in hopes of balmy summer days and nights .......

With a bit of luck you might have a pair of Lavy Pekins there.
