Hi all, and hello new members!
Back from hols and delighted to have full access to the forum again, I really missed it!
Chooks did fine while I was away. My best mate looked after them superbly and did way more for them than I expected her to. Unfortunately there was one incident while I was gone though, we think the neighbours had a party and some of the younger guests decided to come & look at my chickens. They opened up the coop and scared the hens half to death (they didn't lay or come out the next day) but didn't do any lasting damage. I'm annoyed as they left the door open and had to climb over our gate to get in!!! But they are little more than teenagers so I don't think I'll say anything this time.
Unfortunately the little banty australorps are just not being accepted by the large fowl. They are being pecked badly, one more than the others. She's bald and her comb has taken a real battering. I don't have space for a seperate run so they have to go. I'll stick them on the Mart here and also advertise in our buy and sell mag. Seems a shame but it's not fair to keep them when they must be miserable.
Anyhow, glad to be back and hope you are all well. Have lots of catching up to do and a special project to commence, see post in Eggs & Hatching!!!

Hi Elaine, welcome home! I'm glad you had a good holiday.
Your poor chooks, I'd be over reading the riot act to those kids, mind you, round here they'd have been in the garden and choosing one for their roast dinner, not just looking at them! I keep very quiet about having the hens in my back garden, luckily my neighbours either side don't have children - I'm praying they don't move before we do!
And your poor Bantys too - what a shame the big girls won't accept them. If I had the room I'd be over like a shot but I have less space than you!
Must have a look in Eggs & Growers to see what you're up to!
Jackie

Glad to have you back & hope you had a lovely holiday. Where are the pics then?
Glad the neighbours didn't do any lasting damage to your hens - it could have been so much worse! |

Think if it was me, I'd have a quiet word, explain why what they did wasn't a good idea. They probably meant no harm at all, and if you tell them they'll know not to do it again. That way, if there's a repeat, you've got every right to go ballistic!
Glad you had a good hol, sorry the little hens have to go |

Thanks guys. Maybe you're right Vanessa, I know they know that my friend told me about it, she 'met' the father in my garden the following day, coming to investigate. They are on hols now, and yes I am looking after their dog ( ) so when they get back I expect they willl come & explain. I'll then have the opportunity to tell them why it was a really bad idea and hopefully that will be the end of it. They are not the type I would want to fall out with, nice when they're nice but horrible when aggravated! Will have to play it carefully.
Hols were nice but , you definately don't want to see pics of me in a bikini!!!! |
