They are lovely!! We see quite a few at work as one of our vets is very experienced with Alpaca's. The prices for some of them are astronomical!!
I love the way they talk to each other with that quiet squeaky sort of noise. They startle quite easily and don't like to be on their own so we nearly always have one being treated and another one thats travelled with it as a companion. We have several large Alpaca farms near us and they look amazing out in the fields together.
I saw a programme once about an alpaca breeder who had never seen one be born, he was determined that he wasn't going to miss the next one so sat out in the field for hours and hours, he popped in to this house and when he came back it had been born and he missed it again!

Well Bellas baby is due on 26th July and i have been told from the person i bought them from ( he has over 100 Alpacas) that alpacas can give birth unto 30 days before or upto 30 days after their due date, they 99.9% of the time give birth first thing in the morning as the cria (baby) needs to be up, walk/running and feeding by night fall.
The mum wont lick the cria, she will wait for it to get on their feet ready to feed. |

They have such pretty faces.
There is a farm near me and they look so sweet in the field.
How easy is it to get them shorn and the fleece sold? |

Hi Dusty
Well this is my first lot of Alpacas so i am new to it.
Getting them sheared i dont think will be a problem, the gentleman i bought them from can shear them if need be. The fleece again not sure but i will be talking to other people to see what is the best way. |

HEY HEY everyone, Bella had her baby today   .
Yeh she has given birth almost 2 weeks early. The baby (called a cria) is dark fawn / brown colour. I woke up this morning and as always look out the landing window and count the alpacas. Bella was on her own which i thought was not like her. I got my wellies on and went out to the field, she looked fine and signs of birth to happen. So i went to work and got back home at 3.30 to see a cria in the field .
I will put some photos on here as soon as i can. |

Looking forward to the pics. I fell in love with the two little cria when I went to see Robbie.
You are very brave having 5. I have started with just Robbie, but am looking for a female, so its very likely I will end up with as many as you eventually, as I hate selling anything!!! |

My last mesage i said there was sign of birth, but it should of read there was no sign of birth. So i was a very big shock when i returned from home.
The weather was wet and windy last night so i put a cria jacket on last night. (i am 90% sure its a girl)
Here is a picture of bella and baby taken 7.30 this morning, i will take some more later
