Knobby listen mate not trying to teach you to suck eggs(do aliens eat eggs) a few tips re marrans eggs...............they are hard to candle dont use too strong a lite can damage eye formation..............remember 22 days is quite usual.........no wood shavings when very young they love the taste...use kitchen roll or old teacloth.........try not to touch till dry.....BEST OF LUCK keep us all informed ..........mojo

I have some marans in the bator too. Got them for the colour of the eggs - but I wish my first mail order eggs were easier to candle so I could see they weren't scrambled en route!

Mojo, you star, thanks for those tips. My Marans are still not showing any signs and this is Day 22, and this'll worry you. They're not under the broody currently, I took them away so she'd come out into a run with the chicks and let me clean the Ark. They're in a make shift Incubator (plastic, lidded tub with a little piece of damp kitchen towel) and I will keep them warm and put them back under her tonight. I went to put them back, but she's staying out in the sun. All my other broody's have been broken, thanks to advice, I kept them locked out of the coop for 2 days. I went to find one yesterday, to put the eggs under and yes, you guessed it, they were all waiting to come up to the garden d'oh!
So, I hope I am doing the right thing, and I will now not candle (I was gonna have a look again tonight, as I think I heard a faint tap from inside one).
Okay, any advice now would be good, and I think at this stage, temperature fluctuation may not be too bad?? ie; if they're warm, will the exact temp be so crucial?
And shavings? well, there are shavings in the Ark, hopefully mum will sort them out?

It's in eggs to growers and is where Knobby talks about his new 14 eggs. You told him that marans can take 22 days.
Anyway, you've responded to my email, and I've asked, do I lock in the broody with the chicks, or do I lock in one of the other hens?
Confused
