Has anyone got any experience of using sonic rat deterrents? Do they work and are they safe to use around chickens? I mean do they disturb the girls as well - if that is the case then they are obviously not an option!

Many thnaks

I have heard good things about them - they also keep cats and dogs away but I'm not sure about their effect on chickens.

We have 3 - the first one cleared the garage of rats within 48 hours and they have not re-appeared in 6 months - we have 2 in the chicken shed and there the rats/mice seem to have moved on, only seen 2 so far this year - last year they were all over the place.

Have no impact on the dogs, cats, chicken, ducks or geese

Would not be without them - more effective than traps and also safer than poison

Hope that helps

Many thanks for the information. I think I'll give them a try.

I'd love to know more about these as I prefer to keep things as 'chemical' free as possible. Any pointers to a good website about them and a supplier?

Hello

We did get a sonic deterrent and have found it to be effective - rats have certainly not been seen like they were before. The only downside for us is that it is a long way from our house so we do not have mains access, and the batteries are proving quite costly to keep up to date. But I'd still much rather fork out for that than have our rodent friends sniffing round the coop!

One thing I have found out is that they are not a good idea to use if you have pet rodents or guinea pigs Sad
Our 11 guinea pigs are the other end of the garden, so wonder how far the 'sound' travels Confused
