I know how fab creosote is for preserving wood, but how long does the stink last, and does the stuff rub off on your clothes once its dried? I only have a small garden so don't really want it permanently smelling! Rolling Eyes

Thanks

PS If I don't use Creosote, whats the next best thing for preserving wood that hasn't been pressure treated?

Its the best thing you can use on any poultry house providing you don't have chickens in for a couple of weeks . Fantastic for stopping RED MITE , but it's a job to get hold of now and your not spouse to use it either .

Usually takes 2 weeks for the smell to subside .
Cupranol is the best alternative IMO

I think the rules on creosote have been modified.
It can now be used by 'professionals' in the trade.
I saw an advert in Smallholder to that effect.

I have found that the Bartoline Creosote substitute works as well against red mite. I also return the poultry to their house as soon as the creosote appears dry so long as it is really well ventilated and by that I mean a large wired window left unshuttered at night.
