Hi
are they off heat completely now? If so when did they come off?
Like the set up, I'm looking to raise some from day olds later in the year, I may have to clone your box

No, the brooder box is in the garage The pottery and glass is an overspill from a rather large collection, the cheapest least collectable stuff is relegated to the garage!
Feel free to copy, I can get 5.5mm ply in 2'x4' sheets very cheaply so I simply made it to use full sheets. One full sheet for each of the base and back, one cut in half to do both ends and one cut in half the other way for the front. I have used some part-planed 1.5"x2" timber to join the sheets together inside, from the same source as the ply I got this for 50p/2.1m length! Then a few offcuts of battening for the top to hold the ends of the wire down, give handles and to support the feeder and drinker on their chains. It took me about 2 hours to build and I reckon it cost under £20 all in.
They are off heat during the day but I'm keeping it on at night (electric hen) as we have had some nights down to -3 in the last week. The garage is unheated and uninsulated so the air temp in there is about the same as outside but there are no draughts in the brooder.
I'm sure someone said to me once that they could go out in a decent sized group once they had lost all their fluff They would huddle if cold as long as there are enough to huddle
