Has anyone heard of this, or is anyone interested in doing this?
Sounded cool to me on the radio and I am about to do what's required.

What radio station did you hear it on? Sounds lilke it could be good, but I am always wary of downloading anything I don't know about.

Do you know of anyone who has done it already?

It was on Steve Wright in the Afternoon on Radio 2. It was website of the day (week)??
It sounded good, and could work with your firewall so considered safe, so long as you are doing your normal security stuff. You can listen again, it was on after 4.30, as I stopped in my car to send myself a reminder to do it later.
I can hear it running in the background and there is an icon down in my right hand bit at the bottom.

It's been around for a while, and seems ok.

The only thing to consider is that it makes your computer work *all* the time, so it will be using near full power all the time, instead of only when you ask it do something, so if you use a laptop it will make the poor little beasty work very hard and make the fan kick in all the time shortening battery life. With a desktop also that means it's going to get hot quicker, and the processor is going to use more juice. With all of those it does mean the electric consumption is going to go up a fair bit.

I would have *liked* to have done this - (My Mum is just recovering from Chemo treatment for Hodgkins) but once again it is not available for Mac OS or Linux --- grrrrrrrrrrrrr! Evil or Very Mad

I did, in retrospect wonder about processor etc, and would it wear out quicker. When you say elecrtical consumption increase Stephen, do you mean loads, or a £5 say per annum??

A typical processor in a modern PC can use around 100W fully loaded before its even using a hard disc or CD/DVD drive.

For example, an AMD processor typically uses between 68 and 70W, and an Intel chip upwards of 80W. The graphics card can use another 30 or 40W quite easily. That's a filament light bulb.

Watts are joules per second.

In other words, that's 700KWH per year, if the PC is on all the time, and it's using 80W. Around £50 a year.

My comp is on for 5-6 hours per day at the most, so could that be about £8.00 per year?? Confused

If so that's okay, £50 is pretty steep Confused
