Hi again as you all will know i got a rooster while expecting a hen, so when will i get my first cockadoodle dooooo????? also do i feed it on layers if not Embarassed

First attempt at a crow should be around 12 weeks of age. It is an adorable sound. Very scratchy and 'little' sounding. Then they go through the age of crowing as often as possible to perfect it. Very Happy

Very sweet.

Roos eat what the girls eat. Nothing special.

So, will you keep him?

Hi mine is 14 week and has made no attempt yet is that strange?? .I WOULD LOVE TO KEEP HIM BUT IF I GET TOO MANY COMPLAINTS WELL ?? also had a bad time today lost one of my ambers a lovely bird used to sit on daughtesrs knee escaped and a neighbor's greyhound killed it had to bury it in the garden... Crying or Very sad

one of my roos is 15 weeks and has only just started trying to crow, was beginning to think he wasn't going to.
He'll crow when he's ready Very Happy

Sorry about your hen. I go through that all the time with the neighbor's dogs. I just bring over the carnage to her and demand $50.00 per hen each time....cost of hen, food, meds, and what I would make on the eggs. She doesn't like it, but then again she would not like it if I shot her dogs the next time either. She always pays.

yes was sad cos i swear that hen was almost human and we all loved that bird it was one in a million.

so i guess there are no hard and fast rules regarding crowing,mind you he is still getting pecked and chased by the hens at the moment, well he doesn't crow but he can run real fast lol.

So sorry to hear about your poor bird, being chased by a greyhound it wouldn't have had a chance how many birds do you have oh and Hi I think I missed your first post Rolling Eyes

HI I had six but with scruffy getting killed it put me down to 5 but my daughter was so upset we went and bought another amber today but I'm afraid it is nowhere near as tame and runs like hell when we approach, that didn't please my daughter Toni, Crying or Very sad

i have two wyondottes on order and also 2 light Sussex that will put me up to 10 i should have those in a week or so. not sure if i spelled the wyondottes right but u get my drift Laughing

i know this an old thread but, my rooster started crowing last saturday, at five in the morning to be exact! heard a very strange noise and wondered what on earth it was. Luckily he doesn't cockadoodledoo yet so the neighbours didn't realise what it was, and i pleaded ignorance! oh yes, and he's only just turned 8 weeks old!
