Has anyone on the forum got hens that lay unusual pastel coloured eggs? We have white, cream, blue and hopefully green egg layers so far.

I have white, cream, blue, green, tan, tan with brown speckles, brown with dark brown speckles, green with brown speckles, and I had an almost lavender color egg but sadly that hen passed when I first got mareks on the farm.

I'm a newbie here, and would really like to know (Deb) what breeds give you all those wonderful coloured eggs ? Confused I only have brown and white at the moment, but would love to have some pastel coloured ones.

I have araucanas, wyndottes, barred rocks, (and many others, would actually have to sit in my coop tonight to write them all down...I hover at 100 chickens at the moment) adopted mixed breeds, and cross breeds.

cream legbar = blue or green
welsummer = matt terracotta brown
maran = chocolate brown
araucana = sky blue

crosses between a blue egg layer and a brown egg layer gives you a khaki/green colour allegedly

Hmmmmm, well American Araucanas have it all wrong then, cause mine give me green eggs. Someone once told me (wives tale or truth yet to be determined) that the Araucanas with the lighter colored heads lay blue, darker colored heads lay green. I have both colors and only get green eggs.

are your araucanas all fro the same supplier? If yes, then maybe there was a cross somewhere in their background. If no, then I give up tring to work it out
